Q: What is the best course to take if I am considering a career with flowers?
A: Our Business of Floristry course would be ideal and is specifically geared towards those who want a change of career. This well-established course is perfect for those that are looking to earn money either as a full-time florist and shop owner, or a part-time freelancer.
Q: How do you fit everything I need to know into just two weeks on the Business of Floristry course?
A: We are able to do this by having several tutors on this course with complementary expertise. The tutors are experienced florists and are therefore able to pass over their knowledge efficiently and effectively. Paper work is limited and our tutors concentrate on giving their experience and knowledge without restraint.
Q: Will I be ready to start a business when I have completed the Business of Floristry course?
A: Many of our students have started their own business immediately following the course, with a great deal of success. We would, however, recommend that you gain some experience in a shop first. That is why we are happy to arrange work experience for all our students upon completion of the Business course.
Q: Will I receive a certificate upon completion of the course?
A: Upon completion of all courses that are three days or longer, you will receive a gold-embossed Judith Blacklock certificate.
Q: Are the Business of Floristry and Diploma Course in Floral Design certificates recognised qualifications?
A: Yes, our certificates will be awarded to you upon completion of both courses and are recognised by the British Accreditation Council, the American Institute of Floral Designers.
Q: What is the difference between floristry and floral design?
A: Generally, floral design refers to the art of arranging flowers as a hobby, whereas commercial floristry is a term used for those who work with flowers professionally. Generally, florists have also studied advanced wedding work, wired designs, contract work and sympathy designs.

Q: I haven't got a creative bone in my body, but I love flowers. Will a course at the school be suitable for me?
A: Judith believes that if you have knowledge of the plant material available, learn the tools of the trade and understand how to choose successful flower combinations, then you will acquire the confidence to do anything. We will teach you what you need to know to acquire this confidence.
Q: I would like to learn how to arrange flowers for myself and for friends, but do not want a career in floristry. Which is the best course for me?
A: The best course for you would be the One-Week Intensive Floral Design – it is perfect for those who want to successfully and confidently arrange flowers for pure enjoyment. If attending a course full time for one week is not convenient, the Diploma Course in Floral Design is similar in content, but has a part-time schedule (two half days per week for four weeks). The One-Week Intensive and the Diploma Course in Floral Design are suitable for all students including those with English as a second language.
Q: What is special about your school?
A: Our location is just about the best in town, but above all we offer intensive, structured learning that is second to none - and that is why we have accreditation. We have a superb team of teachers, all of whom follow Judith's philosophy that good design is founded upon basic principles, which can then be applied to cutting-edge techniques. Our tutors are all generous with their knowledge, and want the student to absorb as much as they possibly can, enabling them to go out into the flower world passionate about their chosen field. Our students stay in touch with us (we have been established for 12 years, and many students return time and time again) and if they ever have a query – however many years ago they did a course – we are always happy and willing to offer help and advice.
Q: What is included in the cost of the course?
A: The course fee includes all flowers and materials, so it is not necessary for you to bring anything with you to the school. We will provide you with tools and an apron each day. You will also receive a Judith Blacklock Flower School bag to carry your created designs home at the end of each day.
Q: Does Judith Blacklock ever teach on the courses?
A: Judith aims to teach at least part of all courses and is also available to answer any questions. |
