Business of Floristry – two week course
Suitable for beginners and those with some knowledge

This very popular course has now been running for more than ten years. It is ideal for those considering a change in career or wanting an in-depth look at the world of floristry. It would also be suitable for flower arrangers wishing to add to their skills.

The course is led by Judith and her exceptional team of tutors. Each has their own area of expertise and they are a rare gang in that they are all highly-qualified professional florists and outstanding teachers. Their teaching is down-to-earth and waffle free while their design and floristry skills are world class. Between them, they have many decades of experience in all aspects of floristry, in all manner of places and walks of life; from the Oscars in Los Angeles to private dinners at Kensington Palace and weddings at Hampton Court Palace, they have been there. And will share all of their insiders secrets with you.

Theory will include:
• budgeting, quoting and pricing
• running a florist shop
• the elements and principles of design
• seasonal flowers
• contract work
• different ways of purchasing flowers, including a visit to the wholesale market
• purchasing sundries and containers
• taking on premises
• legal considerations
• areas in which florists can work, including as a freelance
• how to promote a business
• relay organisations
• window displays
• customer care

Practical work will cover:
• the basics of floristry
• wedding work
• bouquets, posies and handtied bouquets
• headdresses
• corsages and buttonholes
• sympathy work
• parties and celebrations
• packaging and presentation
• pedestals and large-scale designs
• flower conditioning
• contract designs
• styling and photography
