Description
Judith is the author of Church Flowers and considers it the best book she has written. It has been a best seller world-wide and is filled with advice on every aspect of arranging flowers in a church, whatever the denomination.
This practical and instructive class will show you how to make pedestals look great whatever the budget. Judith has designed this class for people who have a passion to beautify their church but it is also suitable for those who simply want to know how to arrange flowers in a large space. For example, did you know that purple flowers are hard to see in a large space, especially if the lighting is low? Yellow flowers however have the opposite effect. This flower arranging course starts at the flower school with tea or coffee and the group then progresses to the beautiful church, St Paul’s Knightsbridge, where the arranging will take place.
There will be no flowers to take home but you will leave armed with masses of professional tips and a huge amount of knowledge. The price of this course is kept low as Judith is passionate about combining beauty with flowers and worship.
What you will learn:
- Most church pedestals are created with a budget of less than £30 but we show you how to create a design on small, medium and large budgets.
- How to create a large arrangement in an urn that is designed to be seen in the round
- How to grow and choose foliage that with look effective and be available year-round
- What to plant in your garden or in the churchyard
- Where to buy the flowers and foliage

A heartfelt thankyou for a wonderful afternoon on 22nd July. It was a privilege to spend the afternoon talking broadly about church flowers and being hands on as you expertly taught and guided us through the principles of good classic pedestal design. I loved every minute of it and the time just flew by.
The unexpected bonus of being able to take away a small personal creation was such a treat and I can report that even in the heat the flowers lasted a week.
Sharon Waters –
I just want to thank you so much for our time on the course on Tuesday. We had a really lovely day and I learnt so much. I will definitely not be so fearful of big work and it has opened up a new enthusiasm for sourcing (and growing) the foliage. You definitely made us feel at ease and able to ‘have a go’.
Michael Teader –
Thank you so much for the super course on Tuesday. What a treat. Your teaching was so gentle and so encouraging. And using such a wonderful church setting added to the atmosphere. I received so much pleasure from the afternoon.
Fiona Hooper –
Thank you for such a constructive and inspiring day on Monday. I so enjoyed your workshop and feel a lot more confident now in doing a pedestal for our lovely Grade I listed village church in Blewbury. You passed on some very useful tips on design, colour and foliage as well as on oasis, watering, not putting the stems too far into the oasis etc. I hope now to put my extra knowledge to good use. We have harvest festival coming up which is one of my favourite festivals being a farmer’s daughter. I also appreciate very much your making this particular course affordable to church flower arrangers. Flowers make me smile!

Great course for learning how to create a large display, lots of tips to help keep costs down for those of us doing Church flowers but equally useful for those just wanting to create a large display whatever the occasion.

I had a wonderful time on Judith’s Perfect Pedestal afternoon. We tackled 3 different arrangements using an abundance of beautiful flowers. Judith is an inspiring teacher who clearly loves to pass on her considerable knowledge and enthusiasm, giving clear instructions and encouragement. She comes across as someone with real warmth, genuinely interested in everyone on the course. It was nice that although the practical session finished at 4 we were welcome to stay on for tea and discussion afterwards. Highly recommended!
